UP 3985 @ Rock Island Arsenal |
Description: |
UP's big beast of the 90s, this unit has sat for around a decade prior to being moved from Cheyenne to Silvis. This is the first time I've seen any moving steam beyond IAIS's 6988, and seeing such a large locomotive this close was something that had me in awe. |

UP flatcar and 5511 @ Rock Island Arsenal |
Description: |
Spotlights and generators take up the deck of the flatcar closest to me, followed by the other steam locomotive on the move, UP 5511. This unit, until recently, has been pretty obscure and known by very few in the community. |

UP 5511's drivers |
Description: |
63" of wheel allowed this locomotive to roll, along with all of its valve gear. The oscillating movement of the gear was fascinating to me, someone who has only seen one steam locomotive moving prior to this event. Along the top of the photo is the air line running through the locomotive. |
